My Foot

So on Friday, February 11th... about an hour after we had hung the open shelves in my kitchen... I was walking out of said kitchen, and I sprained my ankle! Just took a step, my ankle rolled over, and BAM! There I was, sprawled on the floor, clutching my ankle, in the most pain I've ever been in. Like... the same kind of pain that was labor. Seriously. I cried like a baby, trembling, for 2 hours. At Least! Like a BABY.

Yes, this is a true story. I was walking in my house and seriously injured myself. I am that big of a klutz. These things... happen to me. The weird happens to me all the time. I sort of think it was the rogue slice of plastic watermelon on the ground that caused me to roll my ankle. F*ing Toys. So I rolled my ankle, died on the floor, and came back to life in excruciating pain.

Hubby tells me I answered "Cocaine!" {followed by sob sob sob} when he asked me if he could get me anything, other than the ice! LOL ~ This makes me laugh out loud for two reasons:
A.) I am SO SO SO VERY ANTI cocaine. I'm not anti-drug, per se... :) but cocaine... I have not ever, and will never, try cocaine. Anyone who "knows" me can say that with 100% positivity.
B.) Is cocaine even a painkiller? I do not know. I don't think so. LOL! I can't even take painkillers {Percoset, Vicodin, Tylenol 3 ~ yep, can't even deal with codeine!} without totally wigging out and becoming violently ill. Really ~ violently ill. And incoherent, too. Even after my c-section, I couldn't take the painkillers because it was too much. {Sidenote: I also rarely if ever take medication like Tylenol, Advil, etc. My body almost always doesn't agree with medicines like that.} Actually, when I took the Percoset after my c-section, when we were at home, I really wigged out. Like within 5 minutes, I was passed out, dead to the world, and would not have been able to help myself in case of emergency. I told you I can't take painkillers!

Back to the story.... It was almost bedtime for the girls and though I was in more pain than ever, I insisted I did not need to go to the hospital. I didn't think it was broken because it totally would have been much more swollen. It was very swollen just... not broken-swollen. I am VERY lucky that the only part of my ankle area that wasn't swollen, was the bit around my tattoo. {I didn't blog about that. So I should post about my tattoos sometime!} SO HAPPY about that! My sisters and I {we're tattoo triplets} just had it done in August, so that would totally stink if it had gotten swollen and stretched out or ruined or something. So I nursed the foot for two days and on Monday, was up and at 'em for the girls' Valentine's Day party at school. It still hurt like a b.i.t.c.h. but at least I could put pressure on it. Plus, I was one of two Room Moms who could be there ~ I HAD to go. I was glad I could walk on it and figured it would just get better.

I have been doing PT for my tailbone ~ which is something I really need to post about. I just haven't yet because it's so involved and will end up being very long, if not posted in parts. So my PTist (Physical Therapist) gave me a compression sock to help me out but said that if it was still giving me trouble in a few weeks, I should probably have someone look at it. {I've also been wrapping it from time to time, or if I know I'm going to be out of the house for a long time and on my feet.} She tapped my foot and it didn't really bother me, so she said that if it had bothered me, I'd likely have a hairline fracture or something along those lines. {Yuck. Cracks in bones give me the willies.} She classified it as a high ankle sprain.

Fast forward to this week. I know feet take a long time to heal. We're on them all the time! It only makes sense that this would be the case. My foot still hurts. A LOT. Like still swollen, still can't move my toes in the same way I used to be able to move them, and it's not just my foot. It's still black and blue. It was never just my foot, truth be told. The pain always carried up into my Tibia. I don't know if that's right. Maybe it's my Fibula. I don't know. But the pain travels upward that way...

I'm calling the doctor and making an appointment tomorrow. Well, calling tomorrow ~ hopefully they can get me in next week. My biggest fear is that he's gonna tell me that I have to be off my feet for three weeks ~ which so can't happen. I'm a SAHM! Off My Feet, can not happen. So I'm hoping for the best, worrying for the worst, and in between just getting by one day at a time. I could maybe use 3 days off my feet and on bed rest, though so... maybe a little forced rest would be okay.

Okay. So just wanted to share that about my foot. The constant pain of this foot also probably has something to do with my less-than-stellar outlook on life lately. Sorry for that. I'm working on it. :) Now I'm off to enjoy this amazing weather we are having... before all the bug eggs hatch and it gets too mosquitoey out there. Yes, mosquitoey is a word. Why? Because I'm the Mom and I said so. ;)

  1. You totally did this to yourself on purpose... lol... for the rest. The worst thing for a foot
injury is to walk of it, but in a different way compensating for the pain.... It could cause more injury and worse then the original...

Hope the doctor has good news for you!
